Blog Tour: Drama King by Penny Reid

She’s his bodyguard. Nothing more.

Until it starts to snow.

Drama King, an all-new swoony, hilarious, opposites attract standalone holiday romp from New York Times bestselling author Penny Reid, is now available!

Stuck with her off-limits, taciturn, hunky movie star client during a sudden snowstorm on Christmas Eve, an extremely capable and highly professional bodyguard must keep him alive and warm without letting the tension building between them get too hot.

Bathsheba (Beth) Ryan can’t thank her best friend enough for helping her land the job of her dreams. After being relegated to second-string security for politicians in DC, being hired as an undercover personal security specialist by a giant Hollywood studio is exactly the kind of action she’s always wanted.

Until she meets her first assignment.

Cyrus Malcom can’t thank his agent enough for arranging a blind date with seemingly the woman of his dreams. After spending the past several years playing all the parts and climbing all the ladders, the lonely mega movie star finds himself actually enjoying a night on the town for the first time in ages when he meets the gorgeous, funny, and genuine Ryaine O’Rourke.

Until she shows up at his studio meeting the next day with a completely different name.

A world-wide press tour and too many late-night parties later, Beth simply needs to get through a short, one-day visit during the Christmas holiday, and then she’ll be free of Cyrus Malcom’s confusing hot looks and cold shoulders for good.

But just as they leave the airport, it starts to snow . . .

‘Drama King’ is the second book in the Three Kings Series, is a full-length, contemporary romantic comedy, and can be read as a complete standalone.

REVIEW

Rating: 3.75 Groupie Stars

Beth Ryan has just been hired by as a bodyguard and is beyond excited until until she figures out her new assignment is Cyrus Malcom. Cyrus just happens to be the man she met on a blind date the night before. No big deal right? Well, add in an allergic reaction and some wine and it ended up a little more complicated than that.

Cyrus was lovable. The life of the party, but also so used to catering to others that he didn't even know himself. So needy for affection and love, but never quite understanding he needed a deeper connection than he was able to achieve with all of his social engagements.

Beth seemed so uptight much of the time. So hellbent on proving herself as a bodyguard that nothing else was allowed to exist for her. Detail oriented and caring toward others, Beth focused on taking care of everyone but herself.

While Drama King hooked me with its cast of characters and the slightly flipped script of the female bodyguard and the male client, the story felt like it dragged a bit for me. And i honestly dont know how because I devoured the book, but I kept feeling like the story was taking forever to get to the meat of the story. Don't get me wrong, I love slow burn, but at times it felt like so much of the story was only surface level.

Drama King was a hard book for me to review.  I have some mixed feelings about different aspects of the book, and while overall I liked it,  it wasn't my usual 5 star read from Penny Reid.  An enjoyable read overall, I still give this one about 3.75 - 4 stars.

Keep reading for a look inside Drama King!

“Do you want to listen to music?” I asked softly. “Or talk radio?”

“No, thank you,” he said shortly, shifting in his seat again while he kept on staring and frowning out the window. “You’ll need to take a right when you get to Old Whiskey Road.”

“You don’t want to go through downtown Alenbach?”

“No. I’ve seen it before.” His response was uncharacteristically irritable.

Fighting a bout of nerves, I considered my next question, or whether I should ask a question.

One popped in my head and I wondered if it was too personal. But you know what? I decided, to heck with it. I wouldn’t see Cyrus again after today, not in any meaningful way. If he clammed up, so be it. I had nothing to lose.

I waited another mile or so, then asked, “Do you miss it?”

—at the exact same time he demanded, “Why did you pick me up?”

Stiffening at the hostility in his tone, I redoubled my efforts to focus on the road and responded calmly, “I was already here and the studio asked.”

I got the sense he was waiting for me to continue. When I didn’t, he asked, “That’s it? There’s no other reason?”

Chewing on my bottom lip, my thoughts drifted to the watch in my pocket. “What other reason would there be?” I hedged, testing the wiper controls to see if it had a higher setting. It didn’t. I felt like we were creeping along at this point and we’d be lucky to make it before nightfall.

His eyes still on me, he grumbled something I missed, then asked, “Do I miss what?”

I considered saying, Nothing, forget it, but my reasoning for asking the question was still sound.

“Do you miss Texas? Do you miss being close to your momma and all these wide-open spaces? The culture out here?” I went back to chewing my bottom lip, feeling unaccountably nervous. Carefully, I slowed the car and turned onto Old Whiskey Road. This was the bypass road for Alenbach, which was still some thirty miles ahead.

The snow seemed to thicken while I waited for him to answer. We traveled another mile and I glanced at Cyrus, our eyes connecting for the first time since he’d arrived at the Austin airport.

I absorbed the shock of it, breathed through it. Meanwhile, he stared at me, some combination of puzzled and stunned.

Braving another quick look, I asked, “What’s wrong?”

“I believe that’s the first time you’ve asked me a personal question directly.”

Gripping the steering wheel tighter, I struggled with how to respond, and eventually blurted, “That can’t be true.”

“It is. What do you know about me?” The question sounded like an accusation. “We worked together for four months and not once—not once—did you make any effort to know me. Why is that?”

A hot, spiky feeling pressed uncomfortably outward against my skin. The truth was, I knew more than I wanted to admit. “I—I know plenty.”

“Really? How? Are you a mind reader? What am I thinking right now?”

My breath wanted to hitch. I wouldn’t let it. I tried to focus on my irritation, not this strange sense that I’d let him down.

“Go ahead,” he demanded. “Tell me what I’m thinking.”

Glancing at him, I saw a deeply furrowed brow, glinting narrowed eyes, mouth tugged down at the corners, jaw set. Cyrus looked more like his character Asmodeus than himself—a beautiful, surly, smoldering fallen angel instead of a happy-go-lucky sweetheart with too much energy and charisma.

“Well?” Cyrus pushed.

“Well, obviously you’re angry with me.”

“That’s right, I’m angry.”

“Fine. Be angry then!” I yelled.

“I don’t want to be angry with you!” he shouted back. “I want to be the opposite of—oh shit”—he braced his arm against the dash—“Stop!”

I saw the deer right before Cyrus did. It was huge. Despite my frazzled state of mind and his insistence that I do so, I did not stop. I didn’t swerve either, though every instinct screamed at me to yank the wheel to the right.

Did you know deer kill more people than any other animal? Snakes and sharks have nothing on Bambi. Some people think they’re cute, I blame Disney for that. They’re not cute, they’re dumb. If you’re unfortunate enough to see them in the road, stop only if it’s convenient and you spot them from a distance and it’s not a winter hellscape outside.

But since this one appeared like a serial killer in a snowy slasher flick, I didn’t stop. I pressed gently on the brakes, slowed, and braced for impact. It came with a forceful, bone-shaking boom. Airbags deployed, filling my face and vision. The jolt of it caused my foot to press harder on the brake—rookie mistake, I should’ve removed my foot—and that’s when the shit hit the fan.

What a snot title this book was soooooo good to me but I bad for those around me ❣️📕😱😂 my family was left to their own devices and it was a stretch or starve situation and I was to handled with care as my emotional star was rather fragile to say the least ❣️ each and every star deserved ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

IT’S OUR SECRET

Allison and Dean tore at my heart string from the beginning especially Dean all I could see was this sad little boy that grew into an angry young man but you knew his story Allison on the other hand was a bit of mystery to me and it took time to figure her out . These 2 were both the best and the worst thing for each other🥰therefore perfection and well they were no good for my blood pressure 😂
An emotional roller coaster but pure brilliance !

POSSESSIVE

Daniel and Addison had me worried they’re both hurting and sad and when people like that meet up it often explodes into what I’d call an emotional volcano but these 2 souls made it work for them and they’ll keep you hanging on , keep a stash of Kleenex on hand and whatever comfort food you turn to , you’re going to need it 🥰 I just love you both and I’m so grateful I could’ve been part part of your journey ❣️

A KISS TO TELL

Chloe and Sebastian have known other since childhood and have made memories and journeyed together .

My heart just shattered for Chloe she really hasn’t had it easy and I’m beyond grateful she has her person aka Sebastian he grounds her he s her safe space .

Look Sebastian hasn’t had it easy either and I think that contributes to his empathetic nature towards Chloe the need to love and protect ❣️

I thought I’d cried up all my tears with the precious 3 books but fear not there was a strong force to back up those that had been shed !

I loved each page of these 3 books and it felt like I washed away all bad vibes with all the crying 🤫🙈and started the new year a good way , clean and fresh 😉

Release Blitz: Only Mine by Laura Pavlov

Only Mine by Laura Pavlov is now live!

Wolf Wayburn is the devil in an Armani suit. Most women would drop to their knees at just the sight of him. Lucky for me—I’m not most women.

The first time we met, he cut me off at a gas station.

So, I flashed him the bird and mocked his family jewels.

The second time we met, he tried to get me fired.

He took his shot—and he missed.

At least for now.

Wolf Wayburn was an ex-Navy SEAL with an attitude.

But it would take a lot more than the big, bad Wolf to scare me off.

I had ninety days to win the man over.

To convince him that I was the right person for the job.

But spending endless amounts of time with him proved more challenging than I’d expected.

He was stubborn and broody and charming and sexy—all at the same time.

I despised him as much as I craved him.

We taunted and teased and terrorized one another for weeks.

The first time he dropped to his knees, it was to search me for a weapon.

The second time… it was an altogether different story.

I never planned to fall for the enemy.

Because I knew it was easier to hate Wolf Wayburn than to love him.

I just adore Laura Pavlov and if I were to have a dinner and I could invite 12 people she’d be one for sure ! I love the people of Honey Mountain and it was good to catch up with them 😉

Wolf is a retired Navy Seal that now helps his dad run their NHL team so that he can retire and this man is all business and he’s met his match with Dylan , she’s a real fire cracker and can hold her own .

Dylan wants to be the chief legal for The Lions and while she’s won over all the hearts but one , she has 90 days to prove herself and Wolf and Dylan cash around every corner about everything and when I tell you it’s entertaining it’s not a word of a lie 😬😂❣️

If you’ve been with the Thomas family you’re now they’re loud , they’re big and they’re fun but dinner with the Wayburns family is seriously next level and cousin Miranda is a card and all I wanted to was climb into the book and join the fun and shenanigans!

There’s more Dylan than meets the eye and she keeps Wolf on his toes and makes him want things he didn’t even know he wants ❣️

Wolf is there when she needs him , Dylan’s dad got hurt in a fire and he rushed to be by her side , the man has it bad and if ever two people were made for each other it’s these 2 ❣️❣️

I love Wolf and I love how he loves Dylan but more than I love his loyalty to his team mates and when the need arises he’s there ❣️Bullet is fortunate to have him !

Another shout from the rooftops read !

Then I walked into the office to find out he was my new boss...

In my defense, I hadn’t planned on having anything to do with Hunter Whittington again.

We hated each other on sight.
Couldn’t spend time in the same room without getting into a fight.

What’s worse there’s only one bedroom.
And a snowstorm brewing outside.
Then the electricity goes out...
Only the chemistry between us takes off.

Unable to keep our hands off each other we make a pact...
...to spend one night together.
We wouldn’t speak about it afterwards.
Not to each other, not to the world.
We’d pretend it never happened.

Except for the pink line across the test in my hand...

Knowing her style I just knew I was in for a treat ! BUT this just blew me away 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

The tension between Hunter and Zara is tangible from the get go and they’re off the charts hot and the perfection definition of love yo hate you but i must be honest Hunter is as cool as a cucumber while Zara is is the fire cracker 😉

Look Hunter won me over when he takes Zara for dinner and has an extra chair hug her bag ! That tells me he watches her he knows how she rolls and what makes her tick while some might say that’s weird or stalkerish I say it’s observant and hot 🔥

There’s some serious cat and mouse going on between them till they’re “ forced” to be in each other’s company with a storm brewing , literally and figuratively 🔥what follows neatly melted my kindle and I almost self combusted 🔥😂

I do think Hunter was more invested than Zara , right from the start , she was in denial but he could see what she couldn’t , she’s a lucky gal !

Fortunately Isla is with her when she discovers her little love surprise but hold your horses there’s more to come 😉

I loved every moment of being with Zara , Hunter and their friends 🥰

It was good to to see old friends ( The Seven and their loved ones) again and have a quick catch up and celebrate to the birth of new precious bundles 💓

"Is it always this easy for you? To wave your hand and have all of your needs met? To incline your head and have minions jump to do your bidding? To ask and always receive?"

"Except with you."

He narrows his blue-green gaze on me from across the expanse of the table. The candlelight highlights the golden-brown specks in the depths of his eyes and haloes his dark hair, turning it almost blue. The hollows under his cheekbones seem more pronounced, the dip in his chin seems more delicious.

I try to tear my gaze from his, but it’s as if he holds me in a tractor beam. Awareness tugs on and stretches the air between us. My heart begins to race. This is ridiculous. So, he’s good-looking. I knew that already. What I hadn’t realized is that hidden behind that polished mask he presents to the world is an untamed animal. A beast lying in wait to unleash that darkness inside of him. An edginess, a sharp wickedness that I never would’ve guessed he’d be capable of, but which I sense now lapping at the restraints that he’s placed on himself.

I curl my fingers around the stem of my champagne glass. "I didn’t say I wanted champagne."

"You love champagne. It’s your drink of choice," he declares.

My eyebrows shoot up. "And you guessed this, how?"

"Nothing a little bit of research didn’t reveal."

I stiffen. "You had me investigated?"

"Something you already knew about." He continues, "As you did me."

I blink, then surprise myself when laughter tumbles out from between my lips. "Touché." I raise my glass.

He seems taken aback, himself. Then his lips curve up in a smile that’s so open, so real that something flutters deep inside. It’s probably ripples of hunger, that’s all. I had very little for lunch and no breakfast. That’s the reason my stomach seems to be bottoming out.

"Also, your acting skills need leveling up."

"Excuse me?"

"You knew you were being followed, considering you gave my investigator the slip a few times."

I raise a shoulder. "So, get a better investigator."

This time it’s he who barks out a laugh. "Keep up this banter, and I’ll begin to think it’s our brand of foreplay."

"You wish," I scoff.

His grin widens. "Of course, the fact that you evaded the detective I had on you makes me wonder what you have to hide."

The blood drains from my features, then I tip up my chin. "Maybe I have a lover."

"No, you don’t."

I pull back my shoulders. "You seem awfully confident about that, Minister."

He stares at me. “Why is that so sexy coming from you?”

Heat flushes my skin, and my mouth dries. Why is it so hot to hear him say that particular four-letter word? Why is the thought of this man talking filthy to me such a turn on? I toss my hair over my shoulder, then tip up my chin. “Hold your horses. I only called you, Minister, not Prime Minister, which you’re not—”

“—yet,” he adds smoothly, then narrows his gaze. "You can’t belong to anyone else."

"Oh?"

He nods. "You’re mine, Zara, and I’ll do everything in my power to make you accept that."

Hunter never wanted to love again, but something about Serenity Ryan has grabbed on and refuses to let go. When danger comes to Hope Valley and threatens her safety, Hunter is determined to protect the woman he’s falling for. Because this is one loss he knows he can’t come back from.

Just then, I felt it, the prickling sensation skating across my skin that could only mean one thing.

I knew what I’d find even before I cast my gaze toward the entrance, and the mere sight of him never failed to make my heart race and my palms grow clammy.

The man actually made me nervous, which was something I hadn’t thought possible given just how jaded I was. The things I’d done and seen when it came to the opposite sex had a way of stripping off the rose-colored glasses. But I could say with unwavering certainty that I’d never met a man like Hunter McCann in my life.

The first time I laid eyes on him, he’d left me breathless. Though, the same couldn’t have been said had the shoe been on the other foot. I hadn’t exactly been at my best at the time, what with having been kidnapped by a complete moron and all, but when Hunter busted into the warehouse where my sister and I were being held by what had to be the stupidest criminal on the face of the earth, an instant crush had formed.

Sure, he hadn’t been the only one who came riding in to rescue us, in fact, he had the whole band of Alpha Omega badasses with him, and believe me when I say there was more eye candy to behold with that crew than one woman could handle. However, I’d only had eyes for him.

It wasn’t just his looks, although, there was plenty of fine to go around. Everything from his sharp, masculine features to his rock-hard, muscle-bound physique looked like they’d been carved out of granite. If I’d had to guess, he cleared six feet by a good few inches, making me, a woman who stood at 5’7 and had a penchant for sassy stilettos, feel positively tiny in his presence. Just from looking at him, I knew he’d have been more than capable of tossing me over his broad shoulders and carrying me off to his lair, and man did I wish he would.

But in spite of how gorgeous he was, what really drew me to him were his eyes. The most beautiful eyes I’d ever seen. A blue so crisp they reminded me of melting glaciers. Those liquid pools carried such intense shadows, a shiver ran along my spine the first time his gaze connected with mine. I hadn’t known it was possible for eyes as icy blue as his to hold storm clouds, but he proved me wrong.

He carried some kind of pain with him like a broody cloak he never took off. As demented as it might have sounded, something about those shadows called to me like my own personal siren song. I knew all about pains of the heart, and I wanted nothing more than to see if I could squeeze a little light out between the darkness lurking in his gaze.

There was just one teensy problem.

I wasn’t anything more to him that the sister of his buddy’s new fiancée.

Talk about a hit to a woman’s pride. But even still, I couldn’t seem to turn the attraction off.

“Hey. Earth to Serenity.” Stella snapped in front of my face, giving me a jolt.

I shook my head to clear it of the cobwebs that Hunter always seemed to cause. “Sorry. Did you say something?”

Her forehead pinched in a frown as she studied me. “You totally spaced there for a second. What were you staring at?”

“Nothing,” I answered quickly, but she was already leaning in front of me, following my earlier line of sight until her gaze landed directly on the very figment of every fantasy I’d had for weeks.

“Oh, Serenity,” she said in a way that had my spine going ramrod straight. Her tone held a warning while her features dipped with pity.

“What?” I asked with a defensive snap to my tone. “Why are you looking at me like that?”

She twisted and stepped in front of me, placing her back to the room. “Look, sis, I want you to be happy. There’s nothing I want more in this world than you to find a man to treat you how West treats me. But Hunter?”

My lips pulled into a frown of confusion. “What’s wrong with Hunter? I thought you liked him.”

“I do,” she insisted vehemently. “I do like him. He’s great, it’s just . . .”

I crouched a bit to meet her downcast eyes. “Just what?”

“I don’t know, he’s just . . . hard, I guess. That’s the only way I can think to explain it.”

I shot her a sassy wink, attempting to lighten the tension that had suddenly swelled around us. “Figured you already knew this by now, but the harder the better.”

She rolled her eyes and gave my arm a smack. “That’s not what I mean, and you know it.” She inhaled deeply, like she was trying to get her thoughts in order. “He’s perfectly pleasant whenever we’re at work together, but other than that, the man’s a vault. He doesn’t give anything away, and it’s damn near impossible to get to know him.”

So, he was the strong, silent type, if anything, that just made him even more appealing to me. There was just something about those hard, sexy, broody characters in the movies that drove women crazy. Hunter was a real-life version of every male heartthrob to ever grace the big screen, and I was just like all the hopelessly infatuated women in those movies, drawn to him in a way that couldn’t—or maybe wouldn’t—be ignored.

“There’s nothing wrong with keeping your personal life private,” I defended.

“No, there’s not. But it’s not just that.” She shook her head in exasperation, like she was trying to click her thoughts into place like they were pieces of a puzzle. “I’m not sure there are many people—if any—who know everything there is to know about that man, and I’d hate to see you get hurt because he couldn’t give you what you deserved.”

My mouth curved upward as I grabbed hold of my sister and pulled her into a tight, bone creaking hug. Her concern was the perfect example of that generous and loving heart of hers.

“I love you for caring, Stell Bell.” Untangling her from my hold, I took her by the shoulders and pushed her back just enough that we could see eye-to-eye. “But you don’t need to worry about me.” I winked to stress the point. “I’m a big girl. I know what I’m doing, trust me.”

She didn’t look convinced. “Really?” she asked archly, one brow raising.

I hemmed and hawed for a second. “Well, maybe not. But something tells me it’ll be damn fun, at the very least.”

So Good but bittersweet.
The last in an amazing series.
I love these characters and I feel like I am losing my friends.
This one was so heartfelt I immediately connected with this couple and wanted them together.
I was getting impatient with our hero. Come on buddy You know you want her GO GET HER!!
I LOVED our Heroine her strength, her independence and her heart.
Finally together they were HOT! BUT the past reared it ugly head and I was worried.
The scariest moments brought them closer and they knew, I knew they were 100% meant to be!
I hate to see it end but I believe it will be a series I revisit.

Born and raised around Houston Texas, Jessica spent most of her life complaining about the heat, humidity, and all around pain in the ass weather. It was only as an adult that she quickly realized the cost of living in Houston made up for not being able to breathe when she stepped outside. That’s why God created central air, after all.

Jessica is the mother of a perfect little boy–she refuses to accept that he inherited her attitude and sarcastic nature no matter what her husband says.

In addition to being a wife and mom, she’s also a wino, a coffee addict, and an avid lover of all types of books–romances still being her all time favs. Her husband likes to claim that reading is her obsession but she just says it’s a passion…there’s a difference. Not that she’d expect a boy to understand.

Jessica has been writing since she was a little girl, but thankfully grew out of drawing her own pictures for her stories before ever publishing her first book. Because an artist she is not.
