Blog Tour: WRITTEN WITH REGRET by Aly Martinez

WWR - BT banner.jpg

Written With Regret, the first in an all-new emotional duet from USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez, is available now!

WW Regret FOR WEB

Every little girl dreams of the fairytale. The one where the white knight rushes in to save her from the clutches of evil. They fall in love, have babies, and live happily ever after.
By that definition, my life should have been a fairytale too.
When I was eight years old, Caven Hunt saved me from the worst kind of evil to walk the Earth. It didn’t matter that I was a kid. I fell in love with him all the same.
But that was where my fairytale ended.
Years later, a one-night stand during the darkest time imaginable gave us a little girl. It was nothing compared to the pitch black that consumed me when I was forced to leave her with Caven for good.
At the end of every fairytale, the happily-ever-after is the one thing that remains consistent. It wasn’t going to be mine, but there hadn’t been a night that passed where I hadn’t prayed that it would be hers.
I owed Caven my life.
However, I owed that innocent child more.
And that included ripping the heart from my chest and facing her father again.

REVIEW

REVIEWER:CHRISTI
RATING: 5 STARS

Written with Regret by Aly Martinez 5 stars

If you listen carefully you can hear my faint Noooooooooo as I read the last page because, OMG....why do I do this to myself?

The story of Hadley and Caven is an angsty, emotionally involved story that bounces from the past to the present in the most intriguing way. I was hooked by page two and was legitimately sneaking pages at work and taking full advantage of my kids' obsession with Minecraft to read this book in one go. I could not put it down.

Aly Martinez has a way with words. She has the ability to twist your guts and make you feel joy depending on the feelings of the character you are reading about. Now, this book is part 1 of a duet I feel like any story bits I share have spoiler potential so I will limit my sharing to the first chapter and with that being said, prepare yourself for a doozie. In the first chapter you will experience death and despair.  It's legit.  Your stomach will hurt, your heart may pound just a bit. Be aware with flashbacks you will visit the same feeling a few times.  And man...that ending may raise your blood pressure.

The evolution of the story had me on the edge of my seat until the last page. I feel like I need to mention unicorns, llamas, and an adorable 4 year old girl to let you know there is more than drama in this book but it's safe to say Aly Martinez has crafted an intricate, addictive story and now I'm practically foaming at the mouth for the conclusion to this story.

Excerpt:

Life had never been easy for me. Chaos had been following me like a dark cloud, looming and hovering, casting its shadow far and wide despite how bright the path in front of me should have appeared. After growing up the way I had, where happiness had been more of a privilege than a choice, I knew better than to believe that that moment would be anything other than fleeting.
And one second later, the universe proved me right.
I opened the door to see who had rung the bell—a cursory check revealed an empty hallway.
And that’s when I heard it: the sound that changed not only my entire life in the present, but my life for all future days to come.
At first, it was just a grunt, but as if that baby could feel my gaze, the minute my eyes made contact, it let out a sharp cry.
Confusion hit me like a lightning bolt, sending me back a step. I used the door frame for balance as I took in the yellow blanket with a hole only big enough to reveal a pale-pink face.
“What the fuck?” I breathed. Glancing around the hall, I waited for someone to jump out and start laughing. When no one spoke up to issue a punchline, I took a step closer and repeated, “What the fuck?”
I was utterly unable to process the absurdity in front of me.
Of course, I knew the facts.
It was a baby.
On my doorstep.
Alone.
But the why in that equation was glaringly absent.
“Uhhh,” Ian drawled, peering over my shoulder. “Why is there a kid at your door?”
“I have no idea,” I replied, staring down at the squirming and now-screaming bundle. “It was just there when I opened the door.”
Ian shoved me to the side so he could stand beside me. “You’re shitting me, right?”
“Does it look like I’m shitting you?”
He looked from me to the baby, then back again. “How did it get there?”
We were two incredibly smart men who had created a technology empire out of nothing. But, clearly, a baby was too big for either of us to wrap our minds around.
I swept an arm out and pointed to the kid. “I have no clue, but I’m assuming it didn’t catch a cab.”
A light of understanding hit his eyes. He moved first, stepping over the crying baby and hurrying down the hall, searching around the corner near the elevator before returning alone.
The party continued behind me, but even with the door open, the loud chatter was no match for the ear-piecing cries happening in that hallway.
Veronica suddenly appeared beside me, her body going solid as she stammered out. “Is that…a baby?”
“Back up,” I urged, throwing my arm out to block her path as though the infant were going to suddenly morph into a rabid animal. And let’s be honest, I knew nothing about babies. Anything was possible.
Ian dropped to his knees, scooping up the wailing child. Meanwhile, I stood there like a gawking idiot, paralyzed by a weight I didn’t yet understand.
“Call the pol—” He stopped abruptly and reached into the top of the child’s blanket. “Oh shit,” he whispered, his wide, panic-filled eyes flashing to mine.
“What?” I asked, stepping toward him to get a better look at the kid. Only it wasn’t that tiny baby cradled in his arms that made my heart stop and bile rise in my throat.
There, in my best friend’s hand, was a folded piece of notebook paper that had been tucked into the child’s blanket. From the looks of it, the paper was unremarkable in every sense of the word. Blue lines, white spaces, hanging remnants from where it had been haphazardly ripped from a spiral bound notebook. Even the crease was crooked. But it was my name scrawled on the outside in messy, black ink that made it the most remarkable paper in existence.
I snatched it from his hand and, with blood roaring in my ears, opened it.
Caven,
I’m sorry. I never meant for this to happen. This is our daughter Keira. I’ll love her forever. Take care of her the way I can’t.
Written with regret,
Hadley
The hall began to spin, my head feeling like every ounce of blood had been drained from my body. The thundering in my ears faded and the loud chatter of my guests, who were suddenly aware that something was happening at the door, roared to life.
And then the chaos finally found me all over again—the past playing out in my head like my life flashing before my eyes.
I sucked in a deep breath and looked at the baby in his arms. The blanket had fallen off its head just enough to reveal a patch of fine hairs, more orange than its mother’s red.
“Call the police,” I declared, turning on a toe and walking back into my apartment, leaving Ian standing in the hall with Hadley’s child.
Shoving through the crowd of concerned onlookers, I headed straight to the bottles of liquor lining the counter. I didn’t bother with ice or even a glass. I threw back that bottle of vodka, hoping like hell the burn of the alcohol could numb the panic coursing through my veins.
Through it all, that baby never stopped crying.

REVIEW:

REVIEWER: CHELSEA
RATING: 4.5 stars!!

While Noel is in Sweden playing hockey he meets the woman he knows is the one for him, Maisie. Maisie knows that Noel is the one for her but unfortunately her entire being is an illusion.

I’ve been wanting to get into Noels head since he was first introduced to us in this series!! He was such a sweetheart and I loved him in this story!! He was so caring toward his teammates and to Maisie!

Maisie was one of the heroine I wants to hate because of the hurt she was going to cause Noel but dang she made me fall for her too! I felt for her and the situations she found herself in. She was just trying to get by.

This was an amazingly sweet and swoon worthy story that was a great addition to this series! I want more of these men now!! I hope we get to see lots of this coupe in future books too!

The Moth and the Flame by B.B. Reid
Release Date: May 20, 2019

Blog tour-2.jpg

The Moth and the Flame, the second romantic standalone in the When Rivals Play series by B.B. Reid.

THE FLAME

Here lies Louchana Valentine. She was a homeless, orphaned virgin.

I never cared what my gravestone would say until I landed in deep with a powerful gangster. Lucky for me, my best friend happens to be ruthless too. I should feel guilty that he’s forced to turn on the man who’s been a father to him. Except I’ve always known that Wren’s soul wasn’t as black as he claimed.
He was good.
He was beautiful.
He was mine.
He just didn’t know it yet.
And with Wren keeping me safe, I’ve got time left to rewrite the end of my story. But if he has his way, virgin is already carved in stone.

THE MOTH

I’ve never known anyone as alluring as Lou. Or as frustrating. Since the night she saved my life and stole my wallet for her troubles, I couldn’t stay away.
She became my onus.
My light.
My…anyway.
With nowhere to run, I’m forced to trust someone I never expected. At least with Lou safe in Blackwood Keep—far away from me—I’ll die with my conscience intact. Because she no longer looks at me with friendship in her eyes. Those iridescent blues shine with a different need entirely, and I’ve never been able to deny her.

It is strongly advised that you read The Peer and the Puppet before diving into The Moth and the Flame. Content suitable for ages 18+.

REVIEW

REVIEWER: KIM
RATING: 5 STARS

The Moth and The Flame is a stand alone story however the back story will be spread out over all 4 books in the series and this book is book 2 in the series.

This was one of my most anticipated books of the year and it didn't disappoint at all.

The story was full of angst, mystery, slow burning love, sexual tension and love throughout. The story had so much passion and chemistry between Lou and Wren that my kindle was burning up.

There was so much push and pull between the couple which I loved. There relationship is very complicated and pushes a Lot of limits.

Lou is very secretive and has a hard life she however has no problem going after everything she wants where Wren is concerned.

Wren however just wants to protect her and she's less than willing to let that happen.

I'm a sucker for best friends to lovers stories and this book perfect.

I enjoyed this book and The Peer and the Puppet equally and watching the plot continue throughout both books was great and I can't wait until the book 3.

Excerpt:

Lou didn’t awaken when I climbed through her window, weary and angry, late the following night. My prediction had come true. I’d gone back to Blackwood Keep, and against my better judgment, I confronted Danny Boy. Or rather Ever McNamara. Heir to a multibillion-dollar hotel empire. And the only son of Thomas McNamara. Surprisingly, what bothered me most wasn’t Danny Boy or his double life. Something about his father had seemed familiar to me. As if I’d known him in another lifetime. I shook my head as I toed off the black and white striped Adidas Lou had picked out, swearing the sneakers almost made me look normal. I snorted, and with a moan, she shifted in her sleep causing the sheet covering her lower half to slip dangerously low. Before I could rethink it, I ran my fingers over the curve of her naked hip now bare to me. Thoughts of Ever McNamara fled to the recesses of my mind as I marveled at the smoothness of her skin. It was a surprising contrast to her hardened demeanor, but I always knew it was a front. She was a pillar, no doubt standing tall and appearing strong, but one day, her cracked foundation would crumble, and I’d make damn sure I was around to pick up the pieces. Even if she didn’t want me to be. There were times when she didn’t appreciate just how seriously I took my role as her best friend. She claimed I acted like her father rather than her friend. If that was what she called making sure no one ever hurt her again, then sure—I’d daddy the fuck out of her. Another moan slipped from her lips when my fingers reach the edge of her frilly blue panties, but this time, it was the sound of my name on her lips. For a second, I panicked, thinking she’d caught me perving on her, but when her even breaths continued, I realized she was still very much out of it, and a smile slowly formed as my fingers dipped lower. “What are you dreaming right now, Lou?” Her breath seemed to catch as I continued to toy with the seam of her panties. “Are you dreaming of me?” She sighed in response. “You are, aren’t you?” A low whine escaped her. “I know what you’re after, little Valentine. I’ve known all along.” We both seemed to stop breathing when my fingers dipped beneath her panties and I felt her smooth skin. “How can you be sure you can handle me when I haven’t even kissed you yet?” I swallowed, cursing myself but then decided to allow myself honesty. At least this once. She was writhing now, attempting to relieve the ache I knew was building, but we both knew it was useless. Nothing short of getting me inside her would ever do. “You want to come.” It wasn’t a question but a statement of fact. “But you don’t get to come. You’ve been bad, Lou. This is how I’ll punish you.” I freed my fingers from her panties and stepped back. As if I’d snapped my fingers, breaking her from my spell, she jackknifed from the bed, breathing hard and looking around in confusion. When her gaze pierced the dark and found me, I remain perfectly still, my hands already in my pockets, pretending my fingers weren’t burning with the memory of her soft skin. “Wren?” My eyebrow rose. “You expecting someone else?”

I breathed through that thought and filled my nose with his scent. There was a constant rotation of different shampoos and soaps in our shower. No matter what he used or the cologne he added after, Emery always smelled like leaves during a spring rainstorm with a hint of spiciness like the cinnamon and nutmeg I’d shaken onto his coffee. After several deep inhales, I pulled my mouth away, observing how handsome he looked at his desk. He had on a pair of dark jeans and a plaid button-down with a navy sweater on top. And, even though I couldn’t see them, he had on argyle socks and dark brown leather shoes. I just knew my husband that well. Emery began to move his chair, swiveling it around to face me. When he stopped in front of me, I stepped between his legs, setting my coffee on his desk so that both of my hands were free. My palms went to his cheeks. I loved the way his whiskers felt on my skin. He kept his beard longer in the winter and trimmed much shorter in the summer. Winter was my favorite, and he had reminded me of one of the reasons after Alicia’s party when he rubbed it across my entire body. From the look on his face, I had a feeling he was thinking about the same thing. “We have the house all to ourselves today,” he said, confirming my suspicion. His hands slowly slid to the back of my thighs. “When was the last time I was able to do this”—he rubbed his nose across my navel, air from his lips bursting through my top—“on a weekday?” He continued to wrap around until his fingers were on my butt. His lips slowly parted, his eyes fiery with seduction. “I’m going to put you on top of those blueprints, and then I’m going to—” “You have an interview in fifteen minutes.” I put a finger on his lips. “But I want you to remember the thought you just had, and when the interview is over”—I leaned in a little closer—“I want you to put me on top of those blueprints and do to me whatever it was that you had planned.” He kissed the back of my finger, and it started to tremble. “You’re turning me on so much; I’m shaking,” I said, pulling my hand away at the same time the doorbell rang. “She’s early. I like that.” I slipped out of his grip and took several steps back. “I’ll go get her, and we’ll meet you in the dining room.” He nodded, and I walked out of his office, still feeling the tremors as I headed down the rest of the hallway.

Reviewer: KIM
Rating: 5 STARS

This story blew  me away! I've never read such a powerful and unique story ever. It took a truly great author to bring this story alive and Emma Scott is the best of the best at delivering heartwarmin , read making stories. Every part of this story was mesmerising and heart felt  I loved and breathed through every page and fell head over heels in love with the story and the charachers.

Thea lost her mum,dad and memory in a terrible car accident. She only had 5 minutes worth of memory before it's wiped clear again. Despite this she is the most unique, loving, caring, sarcastic and joyful character with so much love in her heart.

Jim has never had any luck. Living in count less foster homes he's never felt love it had any one date about him. He gets a job as a orderly where Thea is and from there first meeting sparks flew even though Thea couldn't remember. Over the weeks him really sees Thea and thinks she's trying to communicate through her art work. Nobody else thinks this is possible but he truly believes it and pushes  And pushes the others to see that's exactly what she's doing.
They have such a strong connection from the very start. There's alot of angst but mostly I love jim for never giving up on Thea and making others see that she's not gone like they think.

This was a powerful story like no other and I loved it from the very first page.

Excerpt:

“Marc Antony,” I said and nodded at her drawing. “Part of your Egyptian studies?”
Thea leaned her cheek on her folded hands like she was warming herself before a fire. “Marc Antony is part of the romance. A love story with Cleopatra. He went to war for her. Died for her. When they told her he was dead, she put her hand in a basket with an asp. Can you imagine? Loving someone so much that the thought of life without them is too unbearable?” “No,” I said. “I can’t.” Her gaze dropped to my hand on the table and her fingers reached to trace the scars on my knuckles. These tell a story, don’t they?” She traced one of the fine lines. “You put your hand in with the snakes, too.” I nodded slowly, savoring the feel of her warm skin on mine. “So the bullies would leave me alone.” “And did they?” “Eventually.” “I’m glad.” She put her hand in mine completely, her fingers wrapping around and holding tight. “I’m being too… something. Personal. Delia would throw a fit, but I feel like…” “Like what, Thea?” “Like I have to hold on to this moment, you know? Or you… I don’t even know you and yet I don’t want to stop talking to you.” Her hand squeezed mine. “I don’t care if you have a stutter, but please keep talking to me, Jimmy. Okay?” My mouth went dry at the nameless desperation in her eyes. Jesus, does she know she’s trapped? She can’t. Impossible… “I won’t,” I said. “I’ll talk to you every day. I promise.” Thea breathed a small sigh of relief and released my hand. “Thank you, Jimmy. That makes me feel better.” With a final smile—a parting smile, I realized—she took up her pen and then froze. She’s resetting. Confusion passed over her features. She looked up at me, flinching a little to see a big man in close proximity. I instantly leaned back to give her space. “How long has it been?” she asked. “Two years,” I said, my voice hardly more than a whisper. “But the doctors are working on your case.” “Yes, they are.” She smiled hesitantly and found my nametag. “I’m Thea Hughes.” Seven. Seven times now. “Jim Whelan,” I said. She offered her hand. Again. I took it robotically, enduring her one-pump shake. Again. Her fingers didn’t linger in mine but released immediately, the way you do with a stranger. Again. “Nice to meet you, Jim Whelan.” Fuck. I can’t do this. I rose to my feet. “I have to get to work.” Her face fell. “Oh. Bummer. Will I see you again?” I could promise her I would, but she wouldn’t remember. There was no promise. I could tell her the sky was falling or my name was Abraham Lincoln and she wouldn’t know the damn difference. It’d vanish, like every other word we’d ever spoken to each other. I vanished every time her reset hit and was recreated over again in Thea’s eyes. I could be whatever I wanted; whomever I wanted. And yet she was the one woman I might’ve had a chance to be myself with. The terrible irony of it was like copper in my mouth. “Sure, Miss Hughes,” I said. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
