I have said it before and will say it again, I have a weakness for scary "bad" men. (Fictional ones anyway!) The bigger and scarier they are, the happier I am. The story just gets so much more intense, because once that man loves someone? It's everything. "
Mateo is a scary man. Cold and violent, he massacred a whole family's worth of men during a wedding, including the groom with no remorse kinda scary. He is avenging his parents and won't stop until everyone in his path is in pain or dead.
Lucretia, though, is the exact opposite of Mateo. Too sweet for the world she was born into, she is heartbroken to be standing at the altar after essentially being sold by her parents to another mafia family. Imagine her shock when her fiancé (a man she's never met) is gunned down next to her, and then her parents marry her off to the one holding the gun!
Ooooooh!!! I can toss words at ya all day long - forced marriage, alpha-hole, enemies to lovers, dark romance, anti-hero, violence - but the only words that matter are the ones Celia Aaron wrote. She crafted wonderfully in-depth characters and a complex storyline that will engage you until you reach the last page. I devoured this book so fast I almost gave myself whiplash flipping back to page one to start again. Automatic 5 stars from me.
"A bond forged in hate and perfected in love." is the perfect quote from this book to describe the story. Please note there are some triggers here - but I'm gonna be honest - if you are reading a dark romance, you should expect that. Just be aware this is not a lovey dovey, sweet romantic story. It is gritty and violent, but oh sooooo good.
