Release Blitz & Review: The Butcher by Celia Aaron

Title: The Butcher
Series: Protector Series #3
Author: Celia Aaron
Genre: Mafia Romance (standalone)
Release Date: August 28, 2018 Cover Image: FuriousFotog Cover Design: Perfect Pear Creative Covers
I had her once. Or at least I thought I did. But that was a long time ago. Before prison. Before I became the Butcher. Seeing her now shouldn’t make me feel anything. It’s been too long. She forgot about me as soon as I was sent away. But all those truths can’t break the connection that links me to my Angel. No matter how hard I try, I’m still drawn to her, damned to want her even though she’s promised to another man. Being assigned to serve as her bodyguard is a torture so ingenious that I have to respect it. If I don’t deliver her to the altar, my life is forfeit to the Genoa family. But if I do, losing her again may kill me surer than a hitman's bullet.
Author's Note: This is the third novel in the Dark Protector world, David Raven's story, and a standalone.

REVIEW
Rating: 5 Groupie Stars
Do you have one of those authors where you don't even have to read the blurb/synopsis to commit, no questions asked, to the story?  Well, I have several and Celia Aaron is definitly on that list and when I saw The Butcher was #3 in the Dark Protector series I jumped on it. The Raven brothers, especially David, grew on me in Nate (book 2 of the series).  I've always been fascinated with scary, badass men who would normally not give a damn about anything, showing or feeling affection for anyone. And seriously, someone nicknamed the Butcher, who enjoys torturing and killing people, doesn't come across as a cuddly teddy bear.  For me the dynamics just sucks me in deeper and gets me involved in the story, trying to understand how this one person has flipped the switch in this unfeeling machine.

In this novel, we see a progression of David's relationship with Angel. The time sequencing was perfect.  It showed the backstory of David and Angel as well as the present situation complicating their story.  For David it seems that his DGAF attitude started at a young age but so did his fascination with Angel. One fateful, night both of their lives changed and BOOM...there's the beginning of the timeline.

And now that I've deleted 4 separate sentences due to possible spoilers I will say that I enjoyed this novel. It IS part of a series but it can be read as a standalone. The first two books DO enhance the story but aren't necessary, but come on...hot alpha males (and total badasses to boot!) and sassy women that bring them to their knees.  You can't go wrong with that combo, especially if it's coming from Celia Aaron!  I really enjoyed this one.

Celia Aaron is a USA Today bestselling author and recovering attorney who loves romance and erotic fiction. Dark to light, angsty to funny, real to fantasy--if it's hot and strikes her fancy, she writes it. Thanks for reading.
