Cover Reveal for The Light of the World by Randi Black

Title: The Light of the World Author: Randi Black Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance 18+ Publication Date: June 27, 2014 Cover Designer: Regina ~ Mae I Design Event Organized By: Literati Author Services, Inc.

Synopsis

It was 1995 in the Southern California wasteland. I was barely legal and far from innocent. I loved the Gun Club more than I loved Walter, my high school sweetheart. He was the only person who knew why I stopped singing and playing guitar after what happened to me when I was 16. But even an engagement ring couldn’t save us after what he did to me that one afternoon. I used to worry that college would come between us, but I never thought it would happen on move-in day. That was the day I met Franz : a tall, handsome 23-year-old ex-jock from Germany. He was so not my type, but the more I got to know him, the more I knew he was the right guy for me. And after Walter betrayed me for the last time, it was time for me to break up with him and be with Franz for good. I never thought he’d be a safe place for me to explore my darkest sexual fantasies. Nor that he’d be a kindred spirit who knew exactly what it felt like when someone ridiculed your musical aspirations. We gonna start playing music together and be who were meant to be. Nothing and no one was gonna stop us. Not even Walter. Note: This is the standalone sequel to Miss World, which was self-published in 2011, and takes place a month later.

VAN RANSOM

EXCERPT

“Damn you taste good, cowgirl,” he told her once she’d ridden out the remaining violent waves of ecstasy. “Here, taste.” Ignoring her wide eyes, he pressed his mouth to hers and lashed his tongue inside. He knew the sugared honey that was her arousal flared her desire because she clamped her legs around him and gripped his biceps hard enough to hurt. The way she dug her fingers in, as if she were holding onto him for dear life, made him ache to be inside her.
“Made up your mind yet?”
She pulled back from their kiss, still panting enough to make his entire life. “About?”
“Whether or not you believe the rumors. About me. Be honest.”
An impish grin lifted her lips. “Well, I can say with absolute certainty that you are, in fact, a madman.”
“That’s what they tell me, sweetheart.” He brushed his lips softly against hers to show her that, even as crazed as he was, madman or not, he could be gentle too—if that’s what she needed.
“Van…I need you,” she breathed. “Soon.”
The plea soothed every open wound he’d nursed for as long as he could remember. She needed him. And unlike the last woman who’d needed him, the one he’d failed miserably, he would be what Stella Jo Chandler needed. He would keep this one safe.
“You’ll have me. Soon. We’ll just have to be careful. I don’t want to cost you your job, cowgirl.”
She nodded. His eyes met hers and he saw it. She trusted him completely.
He would be worthy of that trust. Of her.
Or so help him, he’d cut out his own damn heart.

Afraid to Love is the story of Ana and Teddy.  Ana is independent and doesn't do relationships.  She loves sex, but only does no strings attached.  Teddy doesn't do relationships either.  Teddy wants to get to know Ana, but she is not interested in anything serious.  Can Ana learn to trust in love again?  She has been hurt in the past and she is afraid to let Teddy into her heart.

This book is full of hot, steamy sex scenes.  It is full of drama and will make you laugh and cry.  The characters are easy to get attached to.  The story flows well and it draws you in from the start.  It was easy to relate to Ana and I loved Teddy's character.  My heart broke for everything that Ana has gone through.  She has had a horrible past and is just trying to move on with her life.

This is a unique story, not like anything else I have read.  This is a steamy, erotic, drama-filled love story that will break your heart and make you smile.  If you are looking for a love story full of hot, sexy scenes and a great storyline, you will love this book.

I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.

I definitely think this was a wonderful love story between a woman who had issues with falling in love and a man who claims he's never been in love before.

Ana Perrot has been badly hurt and doesn't want to ever fall in love again.  She vowed that she would only play the field and move on to the next and would be very careful about never falling in love with any of her conquests.

Teddy O'Rourke is a bartender who isn't looking for love.  He loves to have his one night stands and he's had an occasionally relationship here and there but never has fallen in love with any of his partners.

One night Ana decides to take her sister out on the prowl just to have some fun and she ends up flirting with Teddy.  Ana loves to flirt and she right away hits on Teddy and they hook up that night.  One night turns into many nights with these two.

Ana is starting to feel like Teddy is wanting more than just an occasional fling and she is working hard at pushing him away.  Ana is damaged and thanks to her ex-husband who cheated on her before and during their marriage.  She then comes to find out that she contracted a sexually transmitted disease from him and ends up having a whole hysterectomy done and could never have children.

Teddy has a pretty shady past as well.  His mother was an alcoholic and he was later adopted by a wonderful couple who had adopted 7 other children.  He had a loving and great family even though they weren't blood related.

Teddy's dream was to have a family of his own and Ana knew she couldn't give him what he wanted and craved.  She vowed she would spend one last night with him before she let him go.  Teddy wrote her a beautiful love letter expressing his love for her and it broke Ana's heart.

Can Ana overcome her fear of falling in love again and telling Teddy the truth about her past?  Can Teddy accept Ana once she confesses to him the reason why she can't have any kids?

I fell in love with this story.  I thought it was well written and the story itself was beautiful.  There are so many women or men out there that can't have kids and either their relationship falls apart for that reason or they resort to adopting.

I definitely give this book 4.5 stars!

Excerpt
He bit back a curse and strode to his truck. Unlocking the door, he tossed his bags in the backseat, climbed in, and slammed the door. He turned the key and backed out resolutely, trying to ignore the fact that she had risen, her hands on her bags, and that her hood had slipped from her head. She didn’t move forward, didn’t call out to him to wait. She just stood there, watching him go. He shifted into drive and made it 100 feet before he let his eyes find her figure in the rear view mirror. “Unbelievable,” Finn ground out, and slammed the wheel with the palm of his hand. He slowed to a stop. “UNBELIEVABLE!” he reprimanded himself even as he engaged the brake, pushed the door open and lurched out of the idling vehicle. Bonnie still stood with her two duffle bags in her hands, her grandma’s stolen purse on her shoulder, but now her lips were slightly parted, clearly stunned that he’d stopped. And she wasn’t the only one. Finn felt like he was split right down the middle. The rational part of his brain, the side that ensured his survival and his sanity, was outraged, demanding that he keep driving, while the side of his brain that was connected to his heart and other parts of his body was breathing a sigh of relief that he hadn’t let her get away. She didn’t move, as if she was sure that the moment she did he would change his mind, climb back in the Blazer, and drive away. So he walked back to her, battling with himself every step of the way. He walked until they were practically toe to toe, her dark eyes wide and lifted to his, his hands shoved into his pockets so he wouldn’t strangle her. But his pockets felt like manacles around his wrists and he yanked them free, fisting them in the front of Bonnie’s puffy pink coat and raising her up on her toes and into him until they weren’t toe to toe any longer but nose to nose. His emotions were a big tangled ball of anger, longing, and injustice all wrapped up in impatient outrage, and Finn couldn’t separate one feeling from another. So he did the only thing he could do. He kissed her. It wasn’t a soft kiss or a sweet kiss. It was a ‘you-scared-me-and-messed-with-me-and-I’m-mad-and-relieved-and-unbelievably-frustrated’ kind of kiss. It was teeth and lips and nipping and bruising, and Finn couldn’t make himself stop, even when Bonnie’s teeth tugged at his lower lip and her hands pulled at his hair. Especially then. And when she wrapped her arms around his neck and stepped up onto his toes so that she could press herself flush against him, he decided revenge really was sweet, and enjoyed the feel of her face against his, the wet heat of her mouth making him forget he was standing in the middle of a Motel 6 parking lot with his ride rumbling behind him, the driver side door still hanging wide open. The rational part of his brain was stunned into peaceful silence…for all of ten seconds. INFINITY + ONE FULL WRAP

  excerpt
In the twenty minutes that has passed since my Mom called Parker, the kitchen has become a hub of excitement and confusion. I’m still sitting on the hallway floor. In all the confusion I think I’ve been forgotten. But that’s fine, because I’m really good with being alone. It’s soothing for me to be lonely. That, and listening to all the conversation gives me something else to focus on besides myself. Tommy and Pop eventually join Mom and Stevenson in the kitchen, waiting for Parker. Each of them throw their two cents in as to how this should go down. Tommy insists that he should go with us, saying that Parker can’t handle the responsibility. I appreciate that he’s still trying to look out for my best interests, but the fact of the matter is that Tommy doesn’t know the half of what I need. He goes round with Mom and Pop, but Stevenson stops him. “We need to follow her lead, Tommy.” “I just don’t think her going there with him is the best option right now!” Tommy yells. “Now, I respect your concern, Tommy, and we all appreciate that you want the best for your sister. However, if Katie wants to go alone with Parker then that is what we give her. She needs to be in control of her own recovery. We need to remember that this isn’t about us. She’s an adult, she can make her own choices.” Tommy lets out a sarcastic laugh just before I hear the screen door fling open, the springs creaking in response, and then quickly slamming shut. “What the hell is going on?” Parker asks anxiously. Quickly, Stevenson fills Parker in on my request. He adds that Parker shouldn’t feel pressured, especially if he’s not comfortable with the situation, but that he needs to understand how huge this could be for my treatment. “Why me?” he questions. “I dunno, Parker,” Tommy barks. “Why you?” There’s a brief, awkward silence before Stevenson clears his throat and continues to speak. “Obviously Katie knows you well enough to know that you’ll be there for her, while allowing her enough independence to cope with it on her own terms. She’s trusting you,” Stevenson says without emotion. “I don’t know if I can do this,” he mutters. Experience tells me that he’s most likely running his hands through his hair. He always does when he’s nervous. A fist slams against the table, making me jump out of my skin. “You’re right, you can’t!” “Tommy!” Mom scolds. A few more moments of awkward silence pass. I can only imagine the looks that are being thrown in that kitchen. The tension is surely raising a few questions in everyone’s mind. “I just don’t think this is the best idea,” Tommy speaks quietly. “You’re in over your head, Park.” “We’ve been here before, Tommy,” Parker reminds him. “Exactly.”

EXCERPT:

He swiftly ripped off his towel and unzipped the jacket to my sweat suit, exposing my bare chest. Al gently kissed my neck, once below my ear then slightly above my collar bone, while sliding the pink fabric off my shoulders. He lightly brushed my curls onto my back and laid me down on top of his sheets.

“Lift your hips,” he said as he tugged my pants off my waist and onto the floor. Rubbing his smooth palms across the top of my thighs, he gradually pried my legs apart and nuzzled his mouth against my wetness.

“Fuck, Allan!” I moaned softly. He grasped a hold of my hips and pushed his tongue further inside of me. My breathing sped up and my mouth opened wide, screaming as I was about to come and he stopped.

“Not so fast, it’s time to pay up.” He pulled me to my feet then pushed me down to my knees in front of him. “Open up.”

He pumped his cock until it was rock hard and shoved it in my mouth. Slow and steady at first, then he tightly grasped the back of my hair, as he forcefully shoved it down my throat.

“That’s it, good girl.” He gathered the rest of my hair in one hand and slapped the back of my neck with the other.

REVIEW:
Reviewer: Rebecca
Rating: 3.5

I'm not sure where to start with this book.  I was excited to read it but once I got into it, I found it lacking.  The wording and the way it was written wasn't smooth and the characters lacked the connection I was looking for.  In the synopsis it states she in an art student but you hardly read about it.
The story was hard to follow because she "likes" Allan but then his brother Jake wants her and then there is this guy she meets, Lance.  She keeps yo-yoing between them and I felt like there was no real connection between any of them for her to make a decision on.
With some editing I think this book could be really good.
