Rating: 4 Groupie Stars

Awhile back I read Sicko by Amo Jones and loved it. Sicko fits Amo Jones' writing style, dark, twisted and full of twists and turns meant to screw with your brain.  And the while it satisfied my love for dark romance, it also left me wanting Wicked's story.  Well, I got what I asked for.

Wicked, once compared to the Devil's pet, is the beautiful, mysterious, and dangerous main character.  His life story is convoluted to say the least, but his obsession with Ruby was simple. She belonged to him. Ruby isn't a slouch in with her complex background either, and even though she didn't know some of it until later in the story. Ruby was definitely  a product of her environment though, which is a nice twist of the typical expectations of a Mafia daughter.

As with all of Amo's books, I loved that Wicked was ruthless and Ruby was a badass.  She does not write weak women and I think that makes the books that much better for me.  Even when they are confused or floundering, their steel spines snap into play.

Wicked and Ruby had great chemistry. Their dynamics were the main pull of the story for me.  Normally I love the twists and turns, but this one felt like it had more plot twists than normal and by the end, I just wanted read about the W&R, not the umpteenth plotline switchback. I think this was the reason my usual top 5 star marks are a little lower this time.

I still love Wicked and Ruby, but this one hovers around a 3.75 to 4 stars for me.  (It can be read as a standalone but I like having the background from Sicko. It boosts the story a bit IMO)

About the Author: Amo Jones is a USA Today & Wall Street Journal Bestselling Author, totally winging this author thing (she's probably doing it all wrong). She likes cake, loves wine, and her religion is magic (Slytherin). She's a profound work-a-holic, but when she's not writing, you can find her chilling with her kids & Husband at the nearest beach, with a cocktail in her hand.   New Zealand is not a state of Australia and rugby is the best sport ever played.
